This isn’t crime control — it’s social conditioning. When a Home Secretary openly praises the panopticon, the mask is off. Continuous visibility isn’t about stopping criminals; it’s about training citizens to self-censor, self-police, and self-submit. Britain didn’t stumble into this — it chose it, trading shared culture and assimilation for mass migration, then using surveillance to manage the fallout. The result is a soft police state where speech, prayer, and thought trigger intervention. History already ran this experiment and rejected it. Reviving it with AI, cameras, and data fusion isn’t progress — it’s authoritarianism with better marketing. Once the tower exists, abuse isn’t a bug. It’s the point.

Excelent breakdown of Mahmood's vision. The bit about Bentham's original panopticon being rejected even for prisoners in the 1700s really underscores how far things have drifted. What gets overlooked is how surveillance infrastructure doesn't just monitor behavior, it actively reshapes what people consider normal or acceptable to say and do. Once self-censorship becomes reflexive rather than conscious, freedom's already gone even if the laws havent changed yet.

The panopticon is executed in Washington state with DEI protection as part of the official protocol. https://www.chronline.com/stories/washington-city-turns-off-flock-safety-cameras-after-ice-arrests,391060

Okay, I pay to follow you, @Amuse, because I learn from you and find myself often having to lookup words. Your scope of knowledge and ability to assimilate thoughts is amazing. To what do you attribute these gifts? Is it AI, your IQ, years of reading and study?

This was yet another thought provoking writing.

The UK has fallen. They chose poorly.

Don’t forget Brexit. The problem is their parliamentary system and the inbred Royals are detrimental to the UK. They truly have sunk to a new low, but I hope they are not totally out. Trump wrapped Starmer around his pinky finger, but wussy Starmer is going to pay for his stance on Greenland. Hang in there. Don’t give up yet. The Brits will figure it out.
