What an awful decision. Both seem fine now, so did I in my 70’s but 10 years accumulated faster aging for me. But I have many other issues that our Justices don’t seem to have. Perhaps getting one to retire continues to cement the Court with hopes the Senate remains Republican for much longer.

Why on earth should they retire when they both appear to be just fine, thank you very much, and firing on all cylinders?

Only because “what if!?”

That’s a pretty lame reason in my book for looking to get rid of two of the most serious, thoughtful and effective conservative justices we’ve practically ever had, especially in these times we currently live in.

And shooting craps on what kind of justices would end up replacing the sure thing which they represent is to me the far greater risk.

Hopefully, if Trump does have the opportunity to select other Supreme Court judges, he'll do better than Comey Barrett.

Is there a precedent for the citizens in this situation? I'd be happy to reach out to both justices to make a request, but if there's a particular way that this could best be framed, I'd prefer to know first. Definitely NOT a case of "meat with an expiration date" for either man, but as you rightly pointed out, if the window closes and we then lose a justice (or both) to incapacitation or death, our beloved constitutional republic is in major hot water!

Excellent point, well reasoned argument.
