How about we just get rid of the zombie filibuster? Then make everything law, instead of orders.

Outstanding breakdown of the constitutional mechanics around recess appointments. The point about severing effort from consequence explains a lot about congressional flight patterns lately. I've watched similar institutional paralysis play out in other contexts where procedural vetoes become the default, but the Artice II Section 3 adjournment authority being unexercised is a wild detail I didn't fully appreciate until now.

Our Founders were brilliant. The current Legislative sabotage is a clear and present danger to our republic. Call a recess. Make the appointments. Govern this country before it burns to the ground.

Brilliant! Get on it Mr. Speaker. Full steam ahead.

Call the recess

Nothing will get fixed. We know this for multiple reasons. Pam Bondi is compromised -- because of her involvement in the George Zimmerman nonsense. She’s a do-nothing plant.

None of the rot gets removed from the inside. This is a mindset akin to wood rot curing itself -- by someone noticing it.

Time to start suing every damn institution. Racist, anti-White nonsense needs to become a common knowledge thing.

Troy Goudy said that years ago. That’s why he got out; couldn’t get anything done!

While I understand the frustration of the House members retiring, I also think they are behaving rather selfishly. That’s not public service. Too many people now view politics as a profession in its own right, instead of a service capable and successful people provide to their fellow citizens.

I believe other forces are at play causing the retirements….

Public service was never meant to be a lifelong career. It has become a lifelong scam.

So, come Jan 31, 2026 when nothing has happened and none of Trumps appointments are filled, who do we hang?

Thank you for writing something with which I was totally unfamiliar, and doing it so deftly.

The House has passed some serious bills, but know the Senate will not. Time to call recess and get recess appointments done. The Senate has dragged out the first year with one bill and few appointments or judgeships. We are tired of their using ‘blue slips’ as an excuse. We are tired if the silent filibuster, at the very least make those who oppose stand up and voice their reasons, or better yet remove the filibuster and get stuff done. No more excuses. Enough already. Thune stop catering to Dems; they sure won’t play nice if/when they are in charge.

It's time to step up, stand tall, and shoulder the responsibility you accepted, Speaker Johnson. Stop enabling the Deep State, and drive a stake through it's heart!

Susan Daniels's avatar

Johnson is a weakling. Expect nothing from him.

Thank you for this incredible lesson on Constitutional privilege. Thank you for your clear teaching and insight shared. You provided a lesson our Forefathers recognized may be needed one day. Come on Speaker Johnson, step up and lead and not merely be conciliatory. Dr. Lyle - ARIZONA TODAY Program

The recess would be a benefit, just as you describe. But Johnson (like Thune) keeps his post by keeping the status quo. It will depend mostly on how he sees his role.

Praying for Speaker Johnson to have the strength and courage to take back the country. This would be the Christmas miracle we need to save the republic.
