I thoroughly was uplifted by this post, with the hopes that the innocent victims receive the justice they deserve! Situations like this deserve to be exposed so that corrupt officials are held accountable and exposed. Thank you for this post. I certainly learned a lot about the rights of innocent citizens when the law is being disregarded by those who, supposedly, are put in positions of authority to protect citizens, not criminalize them! Thank you.

JMFF pays you $10K per month to tweet, factuality not required.

' man in his eighties ... spent much of his life assembling ... Star Wars Lego collections .."

Bryan Mansell and his father acquired the stuff over about 15 years.

G Bobbi's avatar

15 years is a considerable amount of time. Star Wars first came out in 1977–less than 50 years ago, so 15 years is about 30% of that time period.

Muse described the Lego collection as (something like) "acquired over a lifetime." He always plays loose with details. In this case, he seems to have been repeating Reckless Ben - which makes it worse.

Anyway - this YouTuber seems to actually have been subject to an outrageous persecution campaign by this small town police force (and the store owner and franchise) - "Mormon mob" indeed.

It's interesting as f-ck - showing what law enforcement can and does do to people in this country. Which is kind of a "libtard" issue, right?

But - this YouTuber and the Lego owner could have gotten themselves paid - or at least gotten a judgement and replevin on the property, long before things ever got so far. And the GoFundMe had already exceeded $200K weeks before the second jailing. But Reckless Ben pushed and pushed for content and attention - and more GoFundMe money - which is up near $500K now.

Police should never be able to do this kind of egregious stuff. Still - antagonizing them usually isn't prudent. And Reckless Ben has now done a few really stupid (and illegal) things. Like running to Mexico when he knows there's a warrant for his arrest - and continuing to make videos about it.

This criminal law attorney (1.5 million subscribers) covers it in 3-hours of gory detail.

I couldn't have made this story up if I had tried! Very clear legal analysis here. Truth really is stranger than fiction.

Ike Yeadon's avatar

No. It's not a very clear legal analysis - or even a coherent one.

Cara Wakefield's avatar

I don't have any trouble understanding it.

"The family kept title to the sets .."

They "kept title," but didn't think to complete a simple, one-page consignment agreement; https://www.uslegalforms.com/forms/ut-spec-00461/consignment-agreement

Are Lego sets titled in the US? Even special ones? Real estate, motor vehicles, boats, mobile homes - Titled property. Appliances, furniture, collectibles, jewelry - Not titled

Hot Wheels, Barbies, Erector Sets, Lincoln Logs, Legos - Not titled

Like the valuation of Mar a Lago, which was strongly disputed, the judge ruled the collection to be worthy of a good enough sum so that the owners of the business hid from being served. People who are not guilty of default on a claim, don’t hide.

While problematic Officers/Departments isn't new, the defund the police effort did make much of this a LOT worse by chasing way the good ones from Police Depts that desperately needs fewer bad apples. Its easier to attract the exact kind of person you DO NOT want wearing a badge to get hired when idiots in government and the community like those promoting defund the police, effectively force out the good ones.

This is a side effect of voting Democrat. Keep voting blue no matter who and life will only get worse for you.

Like there are no Democrats in Utah? How about the BYU Cougar Pride Center? Lunatic leftists are everywhere. Keep it up Salt Lake. The only good thing left in Utah will be the skiing. ⛷️

So "Defund the police" did not result in less good cops in police depts? Congratulations on your effective brainwashing. Ignorance is bliss is it not?

As an AFOL (Adult Fan of Lego I've been following this story and i can tell you that within the community of Adult Lego fans this has Not gone unnoticed. B&M (Bricks & Minifigs) had to post a plea on their site asking customers and fans of LEGO to please stop the harassment b/c that's how hard many have pressed B&M on doing what's right.

Amuse is just presenting the bit with the cops and this stop, there's more to the story. At every step of the way B&M has acted like an unethical unscrupulous business that is risking its reputation for what is really not a lot of money in comparison to the Brand as a whole.

TLG (The Lego Group) has no legal control over B&M but that doesn't mean B&M should want to raise the ire of TLG and people in the LEGO community have been reaching out to TLG, a company with one of the best customer service reputations in all business. What TLG could do though is force every B&M Store to remove the LEGO name & LOGO from anything and everything that is not official LEGO packaged products.

If I were the lead at B&M corporate I'd been trying my hardest to right this wrong before I draw the attention of the people who my own business is %100 dependent on.

1) AFOL consists of millions of people so maybe you're the fetish one.

2) They did have an agreement with the former mgt that B&M Corporate is ignoring. Why not sue? That takes $$ which most every day avg people DO NOT HAVE!

FYI - You will 2 comments as deleted, they were posted by someone how uses the ID supplementer. I can only guess they realized that they were not rebuttals so much as anger and so they deleted them which is fine and honorable as most would leave their anger posted. To be clear I hold no ill will towards this person simply b/c we disagree and neither should you with any other substack user that you simply disagree with. This should be an pen forum where people are free to disagree

You're showing your ignorance. LEGOs arent just toys but depending n the set you can make more money investing in Legos than the stock market. Just nc the valueis the sets is $2[[k that DOES NOT mean thats what was spent acquiring these sets. Its very possible the actual amount soent is more like $10k, msybe less over a decade.

Completing ignoring the FACT that this route costs $$ most people do not have. What a surprise.

I’m wondering if the County Sheriff of Utah County could have been a support for Ben and his group? I can’t believe how much they had to go through to expose the blatant corruption of the American Forks Police Department. People can argue that Ben was wrong in how he handled serving the papers, but you can’t knock him till you have tried it. I can tell you that people bald face lie to you and their friends and neighbors “protect” them knowing that they could be guilty of a criminal act. It is disgraceful when people stand in the way of justice.

I hope the DOJ gets to this…right after Obama is sentenced to prison.

So that'll be two "not in a million preposterous years" cases.

Sounds like the FBI needs to investigate the police chief and his dumbo officers. They operate like a pack of wolves.
