I have been in the European Union for a week now, and I have yet to sit through a dinner, a coffee, or a hallway conversation that did not eventually arrive at the same subject.
They are fatalistic. Throw it out and don't attempt to re-write it. They are just a hindrance to any form of progress. They are prosecuting before the crime has been committed. Small minds. Maybe they should build bigger walls to keep invaders out and install Common Sense and Freedom while sending the illegal invaders back to their home countries. Because they sound like they can't see the trees for the forests. They may figure out A.I. if they got their priorities straight. Life then the other junk!
I use Gab AI Plus that apparently has 100+ models included in the subscription price. I just use the Gab model. And I’m just a regular internet user. Their claims are impressive. Andrew Torba talks about the actions taken against him here as well as in Europe because of his Christian views and free speech beliefs. It’s funny I never ever hear anyone mention it.
At some point, the US has to defend it’s interests and counter tariffs the EU over these regulations. particularly over the global turnover part of the fines because Europe knows they are such a small piece of the pie. The AI companies may just write off Europe and not do business there and not comply by design. Put a disclaimer in the EULA, not for use in the EU or EU citizens under penalty of law.
“He was complaining that he cannot tell, with any precision, what the state expects him to build.” This case is made by Frederick Hayek in his book, “The Road to Serfdom” in 1945 where he explained how Hitler rose to power. The Rule of Law was replaced with rule by bureaucrat. The rules changed by fiat and unexpectedly.
Europe’s master class still retains an inordinate fear of the sans-culottes. Brussels acts as though AI is a greater threat to the social-democrat establishment than no AI development is to Europe’s survival as a competitive civilization. Alexander Muse nails the absurdity: America builds AI, China builds AI, and Europe builds the tollbooth. Article 50 of the EU AI Act demands marks, provenance systems, traceability, compliance architecture, and legal certainty that founders cannot even define. The lordly class still gets an A+ in managed decline.
They’re ALL ABOUT protecting their own power, damned be the consequences. And the consequences of all their follies are mounting daily getting ready to burst forth upon them at any given moment. Tick tock Europe.
I don't care what Europe does to itself. Won't be long, there'll be no Europeans there, anyway.
My concern is allowing ANY EU laws or regulations to effect ANYTHING in the non-EU world.
We need strict laws totally disallowing the EU to enforce ANYTHING for companies not building or marketing DIRECTLY in or to Europe. If it accidentally comes thru the internet - too damned bad - if you don't want it there, YOU keep it out, but you have ZERO right to modify, cancel or restrict ANYTHING outside your shores. PERIOD. EFF OFF, end of story.

Eurosclerosis at its worst.
Sounds illegal to me.

shooting yourself in the foot at the start of the race... smart!

Are the 'deep fakes' then just free speech and to be ignored? Will we ever be able to trust anything again?

The EU keep dropping the hammer on it own toes, and keeps tripping over its own stupidity for the purpose of showing who is in charge. SO THEY THINK!!
