California government, like Oregon and Washington, is captured by the minority controlling the vote count, and are just stealing everything that they can. So correct, this won't solve anything, it will just go into their pockets, and the many "consultants" and "contractors" that are part of the structure. This is why the Train to Nowhere scam project cost skyrocketed and won't be built, never was intended to be, for instance. All that money went to consulting firms who dreamed up a ridiculous plan and nonsensical routes and pocketed the waste. then we have the clock watching no-talent employees who can rack up full benefits with 10 years of doing nothing but keeping their mouths shut, so nothing intelligent ever happens, since the decisions made are more for graft than progress. So the pension "obligation" continues to grow out of control.
It looks like those in the know are grabbing everything they can since they know this is all going to fail soon, so why worry about massive deficits? Steal all you can with the bought and paid for legislature.
A further problem in trying to get California’s wealthy to pay their “fair share” is that the state is overwhelmingly dependent on a small cohort of very rich taxpayers. The top 1% pay 40% of California’s income taxes. As our most productive citizens leave, other more friendly regions will begin to develop critical mass in terms of capital, skilled labor and entrepreneurship. You could then see a tipping
point, an accelerating rapid flight as these important job and wealth creators decamp to friendlier places like Austin. California’s revenue would then collapse as the state’s economic base vanishes. It won’t be a good time to be here in California.
The middle class becomes the political whipping boy once the wealthy run for the hills. The democrats know that moving to another state takes lots of immediate cash that the middle class doesn’t have, so they perpetuate the lie by draining just enough from the middle class to keep the “wealth tax”psyop rolling. Any downturn in the economy ends up being an unemployment nightmare and greater demand on the welfare system. Socialism is an ugly societal construct.
I might have included Alabama and I believe Arkansas and West Virginia will be future hotbeds of innovation. might I just add that WV has about the best roads in this country and some of the beautiful landscape anywhere on earth.
