Not a shovel of dirt has been turned, will never happen. Yet New York continues to invest in solar and wind power while removing nuclear power plants and gas fired power plants. The state is doomed under Democrat rules.

Hochul wants AI prestige without power plants, jobs without construction, innovation without industry, and dominance without permitting anything dominant. The excuses collapse on contact. Ratepayers can be protected through separate tariffs and take-or-pay contracts. Noise can be regulated. Water use can be addressed with closed-loop cooling. Siting can favor brownfields. But a statewide freeze is not smart permitting. It is unilateral industrial disarmament. The Red-Green-degrowth crowd has moved from fracking to data centers because the target is always the same: American capacity. If AI decides the future, Hochul just told the future to move to Texas — or Beijing.
China is using the familiar playbook with AI: subsidize inputs - mainly electricity and physical plant; steal tech through joint ventures or outright theft; sell products below cost; and hobble competitors in their home markets with targeted information operations.
Are we going to let them succeed? We gave them our manufacturing. We gave them pharma production. Let's not give them the future, which is AI.
If we’re being asked to subsidize those inputs, maybe our Government will show us through real action that the goal is to actually beat China. Maybe they’ll show us how we will actually benefit? Other than stock market go up.
Maybe in the future some data centers are being told to bring their own power. The large Meta one in Louisiana still places massive risk on ratepayers there and they still subsidize the cost of the equipment. But in the meantime our power prices are absolutely being jacked up by AI. Even the Fed said so.
The price of my electricity is being jacked up by environmental mandates, higher union wages, and grid upgrades required to accommodate unreliable renewables.
Maybe that “was” the case but if you live in PJM territory, their independent monitoring arm has flagged data centers as the main driver of recent power price increases. If you don’t believe me, it’s right in the data. Things that never happened are happening.
And the utility would never lie to cover up increases elsewhere, right? Especially if they've bought into the green agenda and don't want you to know its true costs.

This Governor Kathy Hochul, along with her joined at the hip Communist, Mamdani, are the poster children for GROSS INCOMPETENCE! Hochul’s moratorium on AI data centers is certainly not related to environmental concerns. All one needs to disabuse oneself of that notion is to follow Alexandra Fasulo (House of Green) and see her valiant fight against ORES and Albany to stop the proliferation of solar “farms” and the continued rape of prime NY State farmland.
If the concern is by limiting data center construction we are handing the future over to China, maybe we should consider banning companies from selling their US AI models trained with our power to China. Or maybe not allowing Chinese AI labs to operate in the US.

Data centers are now required to bring their own power and the new designs don't use water after an initial fill of their closed-loop cooling systems.
We aren't subsidizing ours anywhere near the level that China subsidizes theirs.
