On January 3, 2026, Vladimir Putin condemned President Trump’s arrest of Nicolás Maduro as a “violation of international law.” The complaint sounds grave.
Very good article. Unfortunately, here in the UK we have a government run by human rights lawyers who have an almost religious devotion to following international law, however disadvantageous the consequences for our country.
In fact, international law through the U.N. recognizes the connection between state sponsored terrorism and organized crime. The international law is nearly identical to U.S. law on the subject. One of the crimes identified as terror by the law is kidnapping, whether for intimidation, exchange or ransom. By exchanging U.S. political prisonors for Venezuelan illegal invaders associated with drug gangs who were deported by ICE, Maduro identified his regime as a terrorist organization. By using sanctioned ghost fleet transport to sell Venezuelan assets on the black market, he was at least aiding and abetting violations of sanctions for other countries, if not violating sanctions placed on himself and his regime.
By harboring, if not directly supporting the Venezuelan VP Rodriguez, Russia is party to the same criminal activity. Likewise Cuba, as supplier of “security personnel” (however inept) is also in violation of international law.
Perhaps this is why China, operator of ghost fleet shipping and recipient of oil, as well as $60B to $80B sponsor of Venezuelan “belt and road” bribery has been silent on the subject - except maybe through their shills.
Oh...they're using all of their shills and propaganda tools they can possibly throw at the U.S.A. May Jehovah Jireh protect and strengthen Pres. Trump, his cabinet, advisors and entire administration. He's doing what NO OTHER POTUS in my lifetime (of 79 years) has even ATTEMPTED to do. Clean up our borders and our crime-ridden metropolitan areas and bring manufacturing business (mostly energy and high-tech related) BACK to the U.S.A.
The ICC is a joke in itself. The entire global lunacy with terrorist countries in charge of UN affairs. What a colossal joke indicting Netanyahu for defending his country.
You might like to read Marianne Williamson's substack. She says this is motivated by big oil. As in US control of Venezuela's oil. There's nothing noble or good in this. I recommend reading what Williamson has written about it. Including repeated similar historical failed power plays the US has done.
It's not about oil in the reflexive, automatic, instinctive way the Left has criticised American foreign interventions for the past century. But it is about oil in a different way.
The US is the second largest exporter of oil in the world. It doesn't need Venezuelan oil for its own use. It wants to control the flow of oil from Venezuela to China as a diplomatic and economic lever. And the fall in the global oil price since Maduro was apprehended is a blow to Putin and Iran. Many people would see that as a good thing.

One thing I know that I have learned over the past 6 years is - thank goodness there is not a panel of judges involved in International Law.
One your better essays, and that's setting a very high standard.

A detailed look at International Law that can be summarized as "Might Makes Right." We need know no morel
What Betsy said.
Nobody, no organization, no group has authority over the U.S. except those for whom Americans voted.
The U.N. and the W.H.O would like to think they have some kind of authority, but they don’t.
We didn’t vote for biden. We didn’t vote for the cackler nor for Tampon Tim or for Somalians to overtake our nation.
Rat’s are trying to shred this nation. They stole the 2020 election either Maduro’s help.
Great analysis. The perfect example of what an unenforceable joke “international law” has become is the ICC indictment of Netanyahu…

Found the brainless ‘there’s a Jew behind every bush!’ Islamist.
What a great essay - thank you.
If anything Trump became the enforcer so-called “international law” by bringing to justice one of most egregious offenders of it.
All those whiners have it exactly backwards - per usual.

See that’s where Williamson is wrong wrong wrong. It’s not a “power play”. It’s the arrest of a criminal dictator whom has
had a WARRANT FOR HIS ARREST SINCE 2020.
Of course it has much to do with oil. That’s neither “news” nor scandalous.
Who would you rather have control of the some of the largest oil reserves in the world? China, Iran, Hezbollah, and Russia, or the US?
The world is a very dangerous place, and Trump is setting about to make sure this country is a stronghold against its enemies which are legion.
It was actually motivated by the demonRATS and their voting machines stealing elections all over the world.
Maduro admitted publicly that Dominion Smartmatic and other demonRAT machinery was being run out of Venezuela with his backing.
Grow up and learn to think for yourself. It could free you from the Rat’s grip that currently has trapped you in their sh!t-infested nest.
Wow that's hostile. You don't need to be insulting. Or maybe you do idk.
