Hi Jane, the polls are fake and designed to make it look like a close race because that’s how the media gets views. I live in Texas. Talarico was chosen because the Dems knew Paxton is unbeatable and they had to run somebody. They are racists at heart, so they couldn’t let that black chick whose district in south Dallas went away with the new district map be the nominee, so at the last minute they found a willing stooge, made a bunch of promises to him, and rigged it for him to win. That’s how they operate. The RNCC and Trump PACs aren’t spending any money on Paxton because he doesn’t need it. He’s using those facts to his advantage to raise money, claiming the establishment is hoping he’ll lose (and he might be right about that). A democrat hasn’t won a statewide contest since Ann Richards last served as governor. And Texas just keeps getting redder and redder each passing year.
No, I’ll take Paxton for an easy victory in November. It won’t be close.
Paxton’s critics cannot sell the indictment forever and bury the acquittal in the fine print. They had a public forum to present their case, and every article tried ended without a conviction. That outcome deserves weight. Muse is right that surviving such a confrontation can strengthen a candidate’s argument that he won’t fold under pressure. Washington certainly offers plenty of pressure. I want public officials scrutinized, but scrutiny loses credibility when an accusation becomes a permanent sentence regardless of the result. Challenge Paxton’s policies, examine his record, and bring forward evidence. Recycling a failed impeachment as a verdict of guilt insults voters’ intelligence.
Excellent summary of that fiasco impeachment. Dale Phelan is an embarrassment to the Texas House. He only achieved Speaker by cozying up to Democrats and giving Dems way too many committee spots. Horrible. The Bush cronies need to get out of the way and realize their time has ended, unfortunately not sooner. Paxton will be an exceptional Senator willing to fight the Dems and RINOs.

I saw Talarico’s new strategy on display in his interview with Fox “News” yesterday. He’s planning to walk back all the crazy things he said to win the primary. Now he only believes there are 2 sexes and a very small number of people with “genetic abnormalities”. Can you imagine any Democrat slapping transgendered people with the label “genetically abnormal”?
Will Talarico’s primary election supporters be outraged and refuse to vote for him? Of course not. They don’t give a damn about the truth. Lying is a means to an end they support.
This is an advantage the Republicans candidate doesn’t enjoy because Republican voters care about the truth. They are struggling mightily to get over the “air of corruption” that was successfully foisted on him (by his own party, no less.
Your article provides a summary of the smoke that ended in no fire, but most voters will vote based on impressions formed years ago or 30-60 second ads. In my opinion, (which is not supported by any expertise in politics), some Paxton ads should start focusing on his achievements as Texas AG. However, there is strong frustration among Republican voters against do-nothing politicians whose only accomplishments are “I voted for X, but some baddies voted against it”. I think Paxton would benefit from an ad campaign with the general theme “while Talarico was casting losing votes to no effect, here’s how Ken Paxton was kicking ass for Texans”.
I don’t think his campaign should discontinue the “Talarico is extreme” ads. If there are clear, clean examples of Talarico flip flopping on his extreme beliefs, the “too extreme for Texas” ads should be tweeked to include “Not only does Talarico have extreme beliefs, now he’s lying about them to trick general election voters”. The message that can’t be stated is that all politicians obfuscate and even lie, so the important issue for voters to focus on is which liar gets things done and which has had no impact in his career.
