Cuba has made a very powerful impact in our world by actually converting revolution into a commodity. Something it can sell as a service (for instance, its "security services to Venezuela"). It also builds the mystique of its product by glorifying and elaborating at scale its methods of creating superstitious melodrama. Can you think of a single Latin leader of Central or South America who doesn't fuel support through passionate superstitious drama? I lived in Venezuela for 4 years as a teenager. More often than not, there is always some kind of superstition to be exploited, but I never saw it done better than when Chavez convinced the people of Venezuela that he was the reincarnation of Simon Bolivar!! They really believed him, and since Bolivar is a much-beloved historical figure in South America, they followed him. And the passionate Che? The Castros could not control him, he really loved killing, but that didn't stop them from using his romanticized persona to put the fear of God into the peasants. He was a homicidal maniac. I briefly saw him at work close to Maturín, Venezuela. His presence in that area of jungle convinced my parents to get us on the first plane back to the States.
