No matter how hard we try to make the voting machines un-riggable, it will ALWAYS be a game of cat and mouse, and the cat will always win often enough that the cat eats well. Notice all the high profile headlines of very secure government servers getting hacked? Notice the never ending updates for your operating system to stop neverending hacking threats?
Why can’t I log in after voting and see my ballot? After all, I can see my gas bill and Amazon purchases. Is that too much to ask a government that sends people into outer space?
Why? My individual ballot is not important. It is only in the aggregate, when it and all other ballots are honestly counted, that it becomes important.
If people really want machine counting there is an expensive way to do it honestly. Have two sets of machines from different manufacturers count the same ballots. Rigging would have to be identical on both, and if at least one set (better yet both) lacks internet access that becomes very hard. Any mismatch between the machines triggers a hand recount.
I would also argue that:
1) Voting machines should give a printed receipt, and should shut down if that is interrupted.
2) The software should be sequestered so that the public can inspect it after the election (inspection before elections would aid fraud).
3) Ballots should be issued/printed by a machine that first scans a valid photo ID.
I believe the main significant difference is "virtually UNLUMITED BALLOT PRINTING" (ballots available). This happened for the first time for the 2020 election...it is set-up now. that is what made the real difference. All the other false flags (lies), and minor spoken manipulations (lies, innuendos, book banning/hidden) are weak, compared to unlimited printed ballots made available.

Because if everyone can confirm that their own vote was cast and recorded correctly, it makes ballot tampering very difficult.

What’s a realistic path toward a comprehensive solution?
In person with some exceptions, pre registration and proof of citizenship, and on site ID to confirm who the voter is. It’s not rocket science.
